From 1999 four 3-year cycles of training in arts therapies originally for teachers as part of a continuing education offer; after the creation of the University of Luxembourg in 2003 it was decided not to integrate the course into the regular course offer, but to confer a “DESS- Diplômes d’Études Supérieures Spécialisées” (Diploma of Higher Specialized Studies) during a transitional phase. According to the University and the Ministry of Culture and Higher Education the DESS does not correspond to a Master’s degree.
Most Luxembourgers, however, study in the neighboring countries: Germany, Belgium, France, Netherlands, UK and come back with private certificates, university diplomas, Bachelor and Master degrees, and therefore have very heterogeneous training backgrounds.

No state recognition.
Visual art therapy is conducted in a variety of settings:
  • in a neuropsychiatric rehabilitation clinic,
  • on several acute psychiatric wards,
  • in a rehabilitation clinic,
  • in several psychotherapeutic centers and homes for children and adolescents;
  • Project contracts in palliative care and in oncology financed through cancer foundations,
  • in nursing homes;
  • in private practice;
Employment often on the grounds of the basic profession or what is seen as equivalent (occupational therapy for instance); Salaries according to level of studies.
Growing interest: the association receives about 1-2 employment offers per year.
Limited activity in the field of research and publication
