Becoming an Art Therapist

Interested in Art Therapy training?

ATTENTION: We have noticed a growing number of aggressively commercialized online art therapy training offers on social media. PLEASE DO NOT FALL FOR THESE, they do not and cannot provide you with the necessary skills, knowledge and ethical framework to responsibly work with vulnerable populations!

PLEASE NOTE THAT EFAT DOES NOT OFFER ART THERAPY TRAINING!
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ART THERAPY TRAINING, PLEASE LOOK UP THE INFORMATION FOR THE COUNTRY/IES OF YOUR CHOICE. EFAT is a volunteer-run organisation and therefore does not have the resources to research art therapy training offers and scholarships on your behalf. For guidance please:
  • be aware that in general courses are taught only in the language(s) of the respective country;
  • contact the respective national associations or, if indicated, the various schools;
  • compare education offers with EFAT's minimum Full Individual membership criteria to make sure you receive solid training.

BECAUSE OF THE MANY REQUESTS WE RECEIVE ASKING FOR THE RECOMMENDATION OF SPECIFIC ART THERAPY TRAINING COURSES, WE WISH TO POINT OUT THAT EFAT DOES NOT ENGAGE IN INDICATING / FAVORING SPECIFIC ART THERAPY EDUCATION OFFERS.
It is important that you find the best fit for yourself, based on your interests and your personal and professional profile.
Make sure, however, that your training allows you to become a Full EFAT member and that it equips you with the necessary knowledge and skills to competently exercise your profession. As a rule of thumb, the more demanding the training, the better!
