Good to knowThe date of the DATE was chosen in remembrance of the very first meeting of EFAT's precursor at a conference in Lucca, Italy: The Network of European Art Therapists (NEAT), an informal network began with a lunch meeting of art therapists from 7 European countries on 24th September 2011 and quickly grew to a group of 1-3 art therapists from each of the then 27 EU member states. As we prepare for the Day of Art Therapy in Europe (DATE), our goal is to open our doors to the wider public and vividly demonstrate the transformative power of our profession.
To help unify our collective voice across Europe, this year’s motto plays on the English idiom: "Showing one's true colours" which in some other languages has similar equivalents (e.g. “Farbe bekennen” in German). At its core, the theme of finding one’s true colours represents the process of shedding facades, cultivating authenticity, accepting and revealing one’s true nature.
This year’s motto therefore aligns seamlessly with the foundational pillars of our daily practice: self-expression and self-discovery. While the general public often views art making as purely recreational, this year's actions will highlight how art therapy allows to
