Good to knowThe date of the DATE was chosen in remembrance of the very first meeting of EFAT's precursor at a conference in Lucca, Italy: The Network of European Art Therapists (NEAT), an informal network began with a lunch meeting of art therapists from 7 European countries on 24th September 2011 and quickly grew to a group of 1-3 art therapists from each of the then 27 EU member states. Connection is at the heart of art therapy — to oneself, to others, and to the broader social, cultural, and ecological world. In times of fragmentation, polarisation and precarity, art therapy offers a space where dialogue, belonging and meaning can take shape through the creative process. It honours the lived experience of the user — their voice, agency, and perspective — and recognises the complexity of identity, including gender, culture, and community. Whether working with individuals or groups, art therapy invites expression beyond words, and fosters relationships that support healing and growth.
We invite the art therapist community to offer workshops, seminars, and other events that explore how connection is established and how it emerges in the art therapy process — through image, interaction, and the presence of the art therapist as facilitator, mediator, and witness.

EFAT provides FREE promotional material to its members for participating in the Day of Art Therapy in Europe.
